Thoughts on the recent Taekwondo rules and news

What happen to the rules and some of the players these days... The recent rules of enabling one to hit the neck is in fact somehow or rather a dangerous move as the neck is actually pretty vulnerable and there is entirely no protection over it. Although the fact that now the rule states that once a touch on the head could be points scored which shows the fact that it is a sport and an exchange of techniques but not many can control the kicks. Still this is good for sports. Taekwondo sport is a sport. It probably should not be out to knock out someone unless it is Taekwondo self-defense where the kicks definitely have to be much impactful.

The second thought on the players is about the news of the New Zealand player where he open a brothel to raise fund for competing. Yes it is not illegal but the essence of the sport and art is supposed to cultivate one's character if one understands it. It is not just about competing and winning.

Of course, such news will have an effect on the sport and there are of course others who practice it with great respect and shows that character indeed is an important element. Probably we should remember the roots sometimes that is why it is important. The roots of Taekwondo where it was developed comprises of more important elements such as loyalty, integrity, etc.

Some will take the stand that sports cultivate character which is true however all the news probably point to the fact that sports reveals character also.
